Watchman: Those Who Reject Jesus Christ Will Face God’s Curse, and California, Along With Our Nation, Is Also Under His Judgment Due to the Influence of Satan’s Soldiers in Power
By SRH,
Police and fire chaplains in Carlsbad, California have been instructed to cease praying in the name of Jesus.
Pastor JC Cooper has been a volunteer chaplain for the police department for six years. Recently, he was asked to deliver the invocation at a police department awards ceremony. At the end of the prayer, he mentioned the name of Jesus Christ. Subsequently, the city manager informed Pastor Cooper that any future prayers invoking the name of Jesus would result in disciplinary action.
During a conversation with City Manager Scott Chadwick and the police chief, Mr. Chadwick stated that mentioning “Jesus” was considered harassment, created a hostile work environment, and favored one religion over others. He then advised JC that he could pray using any other name or term for God, except “Jesus.”
Similar events unfolded when Pastor Cooper’s father, Denny, attempted to deliver an invocation at the fire department.
City Manager Scott Chadwick asserts that mentioning the name of Jesus is viewed as harassment and leads to a hostile work environment.
First Liberty Institute is standing up for the Coopers, arguing that the city’s actions violate the U.S. Constitution.
“Because the chaplains cannot in good conscience remove the name of Jesus from their prayers, this directive denies first responders the comfort and spiritual support that the chaplains’ volunteer ministry has offered for almost two decades,” First Liberty stated in a demand letter to the city.
First Liberty emphasizes that the Establishment Clause does not intend to eliminate religion from government.
In 1776, the Continental Congress had a strong tradition of public prayer and chaplain programs. Therefore, if chaplains were acceptable for our Founding Fathers, they should be acceptable for Carlsbad.
